Accessibility statement

RemacReady should be usable by everyone studying for the NYC REMAC exam, including people with disabilities. This page says what we offer, where we fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.

Our commitment

RemacReady is operated by Nightline Vending LLC. We aim to make RemacReady usable by people with disabilities, and our goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

We are working toward that goal and do not claim full conformance. We have not had a third-party accessibility audit, and this page is not a certification.

What we offer

Signed-in users can set these up in Settings > Accessibility (you will need to sign in first). Your choices are saved to your account and follow you to your other devices.

Read aloud
Questions, answer choices, explanations and flashcards can be read to you using your device's built-in voice (the browser's Web Speech API). You choose the voice and speed, and the word being read can be highlighted. Medical terms go through a pronunciation list so they are spoken more naturally. Read aloud can start automatically for questions or explanations if you turn that on.
Keyboard
Keyboard shortcuts are always on, with nothing to switch on. During a quiz you can use the left and right arrow keys (or P and N) to move between questions, A to D (or 1 to 4) to choose an answer, Enter to check the answer or continue, F to flag a question, E to show or hide the explanation, and R to start or stop read aloud. They never act while you are typing in a field, the AI tutor or a note, or when Ctrl, Cmd or Alt is held. The full list is in Settings > Accessibility once you are signed in. Interactive elements show a visible focus outline, and each page starts with a “Skip to content” link.
Text size and spacing
Choose Large or Extra large text, and Relaxed or Extra relaxed line spacing. During a quiz, the Aa button in the toolbar changes text size, font and reading speed without leaving the question.
Dyslexia-friendly fonts
Switch the reading font to Atkinson Hyperlegible or OpenDyslexic.
High contrast and reduced motion
A high-contrast mode strengthens colors and focus outlines. A reduced-motion setting turns off animation, and RemacReady also respects your device's reduce-motion setting.
Light and dark appearance
RemacReady follows your device's light or dark appearance setting. There is no separate switch inside the site.
Loading states, charts and layout
Pages that load data show placeholder skeletons with text for screen readers. Charts in Stats are drawn graphically, and each has a “Show data table” option with the same numbers. Layouts adapt to phones, tablets and computers, and there is nothing to install.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you about these up front.

  • Protocol Reader pages

The Protocol Reader shows the NYC REMAC protocols as PDF pages drawn on screen, with a selectable text layer on top. Scanned pages, tables, flowcharts and algorithms may not be fully readable by a screen reader, the reading order may not match the visual layout, and text in the layer may be missing or inaccurate. If you need a section in another form, ask us (see below).

  • Read aloud depends on your browser and device

Read aloud uses the voices installed on your device, so how it sounds, which voices exist and whether word highlighting works vary by browser and operating system. Some browsers need one tap before they will start speaking, and a few do not support speech at all. Unusual medical terms may still be mispronounced. Read aloud does not replace a screen reader.

  • AI Tutor

The AI tutor is a text chat with no voice input. Its answers can be wrong and are for exam study only.

  • Settings need an account

Text size, spacing, fonts, contrast, motion and read-aloud settings live in Settings, so you must be signed in to change them.

  • No third-party audit yet

We test as we build, but we have not had an independent accessibility audit, so there may be barriers we have not found.

Report a barrier or request an accommodation

If something on RemacReady is hard or impossible to use, or you need content in a different form, please tell us. Include the page or feature, what you were trying to do, and the browser, device and any assistive technology you use.

We aim to reply within 5 business days. Where it is reasonable, we will offer an alternative format, such as protocol content in another form, and we will tell you if we cannot fix something right away.
