The exam

Format and passing score

To work as a paramedic in New York City you credential through REMAC, and that means the NYC REMAC Basic Exam. It tests the NYC REMAC Protocols specifically, not general paramedic knowledge.

Exam rules, fees and dates can change. Confirm the current details with REMSCO at nycremsco.org.

  • 120multiple-choice questions
  • 3 hoursto finish
  • 80%to pass

80% of 120 means you can miss at most 24 questions. That's why RemacReady's mock exam scores you against the same mark and shows every explanation when you finish.

What it covers

The NYC REMAC protocols, not general paramedic knowledge

The exam tests the protocol document itself. RemacReady's questions are written against the same document and grouped into practice subjects.

  • General Operating Procedures

The rules that frame every call, such as transport and destination decisions, specialty care facilities and working with online medical control.

  • Treatment Protocols

The standing orders and medical-control options for each condition, from airway and cardiac arrest to trauma and medical emergencies.

  • Appendices

The supporting material at the back of the protocol document. Easy to skim past when you study, and fair game on the exam.

  • Scenario-based questions

Short patient presentations that ask you to apply the protocols: what to do next, which order applies, where to transport.

RemacReady practice subjects

  • Airway, Respiration & Ventilation
  • Cardiology & Resuscitation
  • Trauma
  • Medical / OB-GYN
  • EMS Operations
  • Clinical Judgment
  • General Operating Procedures
  • Appendix
